Sensei Tony Rodriguez started training under Joaquin Pangelinan in 1991 and continued in his instructor’s footsteps to continue the Kyokushin way of life. In 1993 with his brother Fred traveled to Japan for the first time to participate in the annual summer training camp. Upon arriving to Ikebukuro the brothers were able to catch the last training session for the day, a training session that Sosai Oyama taught himself. It was a humbling and enlightening experience for the two and it was the last time two color belts from Guam were able to train with the great master before his death in 1994.
Since then Sensei Tony & Senpai Fred have traveled to Japan for training camps and for their black belt tests receiving their shodans in 1998, at the old honbu dojo, and their nidans (second degree black belts) in 2006 in the new honbu dojo in Ikebukuru. Sensei Tony also competed in the 9th Open World Tournament in Japan in 2007, an international tournament with over 180 fighters from all over the world. Along with his passion for karate Sensei Tony also brings his experience and hard work ethic to ensure that the values of the Kyokushin dojo oath, recited after every karate training session, are shared with every student who is committed to their own training and Kyokushin way of life. Sensei Tony also believes that the traditional aspect of karate the vigorous training of Kyokushin have attributed to his personal and professional achievements in his life. Now at the Hagatna Martial Arts Center you can experience Sensei Tony's traditional spirit of karate.
